· The item to be painted must be warm, dry and dust free. Choose a warm day to paint, or paint indoors – during winter months, make sure piece is indoors for 48 hours prior to and after painting.
· Brush object to be painted with a bristle brush, wisp broom or high-pressure air (air compressor) so piece is dust free. Chips or cracks may be repaired with any brand of auto body filler (bondo). If any paint is peeling or flaking, scrape with a serrated steak knife. It is unnecessary to remove all of the old paint. Do not use a wire brush or sand paper, this may scratch the smooth surface of the concrete.
· Using exterior latex paint only, completely paint the piece the darker color (one coat) allowing the first coat to dry for about 2 hours or overnight if inside.
· Using a very dry 1½ to 3 inch brush, dip into the lighter color of paint about a ¼ inch (use very sparingly.) Rub the paint off on a rough piece of plywood or cardboard very thoroughly until brush is almost dry. You now only have enough paint to bring out the detail in the piece.
· Go over the piece every which way with the paint brush, evening out the two colors and allow the piece to dry completely.
· Do Not apply any type of gloss or sealers, doing so could cause peeling and difficulty re-painting in years to come. The piece must be able to breath through the latex paint.
· If the piece holds water, Do Not put water in until 48 hours after painting.
· If you have any problems, or do not like the result, reapply the darker color and start again.
· All colors and sizes of exterior latex paint sold at Potteryland, Inc. or Potteryland-Online.com
